Impregnating glass cloth with PTFE leaves a textured surface, and the PTFE is thinner over the raised points, so it wears through there first.
HG Tape laminates a cast film over the impregnated layer. The surface is smoother and the film itself is stronger and more wear-resistant, which extends service life. It is used for heat sealing and for other points that need a non-stick surface.
For places that briefly exceed the rating of this grade, such as the inside of an oven, see HG-10S.
